Roberts Preps 'Unfabulous' Debut

Actress Emma Roberts is readying her debut album, "Unfabulous and More: Emma Roberts," for a Sept. 27 release via Columbia. The set is the quasi-soundtrack to the television series "Unfabulous," in which the 14-year-old Roberts stars on Nickelodeon.

"She's a normal teenage girl who has to deal with the same things everyone else does -- family, friends, school, crushes," Roberts says of her character, Addie Singer. "But instead of writing in a journal, she sings and plays guitar to get her feelings out."

Six of the 10 songs that appear on the Brian Malouf-produced album stem from the first season of "Unfabulous." Among the four new tracks is "This Is Me," which was co-written by Roberts. The rest were written by Jill Sobule, Andrew Williams, Franne Golde, Daniel Holter, Michael Standal, Lindsay and Christopher Sorensen and others.

The first single will be "I Wanna Be," A Dual Disc version of the CD will include the video for that song and "I Have Arrived," as well as clips and outtakes from the series.

"The songs are really fun and playful -- and yes, they do kind of describe me," she says. "I wanted to pick songs that I could relate to, or that I thought other people could relate to."

Roberts, who is the niece of actress Julia Roberts, released her first song, "If I Had It My Way," on the Walt Disney soundtrack to 2004's "Ice Princess." Among her film credits is a role in 2001's "Blow," as well as roles in three films due next year: "Aquamarine," "Bras and Broomsticks" and "Camp Couture."

She is nominated for the choice breakout performance-female Teen Choice Award, while "Unfabulous" is up for choice breakout show. The Aug. 16 ceremony will be broadcast live on Fox.
