The film adaptation of Mötley Crüe's band biography will not be in the hands of Rob Zombie after all.
Last week, drummer Tommy Lee told Billboard.com that "we finally got a director" for the big screen version of 2002's "The Dirt -- Confessions of the World's Most Notorious Rock Band." "Rob Zombie is going to direct," Lee said at the time, adding the long-gestating film "is moving forward, which is nice 'cause it wasn't moving anywhere for quite awhile. Now things are moving forward."

Not with Zombie, however. While on tour in Australia, Zombie said that he is not directing "The Dirt," and Lee subsequently clarified via email that, "I would LOVE to have Rob Zombie direct 'The Dirt,' but far as I know that's not happening. I haven't heard that anyone has been picked yet. You know, the drummer's always the last to know. :) "
Lee did say that the Crüe may well use "The Dirt" as a vehicle for the next batch of new music the band may record. But its next move is a 30th anniversary summer tour with Poison and the New York Dolls, which kicks off June 7 in Dallas.
