Founding Sly and the Family Stone member and current Prince bassist Larry Graham will be celebrated by Rhino/Warner Archives with "The Jam: The Larry Graham & Graham Central Station Anthology," a new two-disc collection due Oct. 2. The compilation will include 33 songs culled from Graham's two solo albums and his work with Graham Central Station, the funk outfit he started after leaving Sly in 1972.

Along with cuts from his many studio albums, the compilation will feature three rarer tracks: a live rendition of the Sly hit "I Want to Take You Higher," a previously unreleased cover of the Beatles' "Dear Prudence," and an extended version of "I'm So Glad It's Summer Again."

Graham is widely regarded as one of the principal electric bass innovators in funk and R&B, having introduced the now omnipresent technique of thumping and plucking the bass strings. He joined Sly and the Family Stone in 1967 and played on the group's biggest hits, including "Family Affair," "Dance to the Music," and "Everyday People." After leaving the band, he formed Graham Central Station and released a string of hit albums and singles such as "Can You Handle It?" and "The Jam."

In 1980, Graham released the album "One In A Million You" under his own name, which hit No. 2 on Billboard's Top R&B Albums chart and spawned a No. 1 R&B single with the title cut. In 1998, he joined Prince's New Power Generation and has appeared on all the artist's subsequent work, including the albums "New Power Soul" and "Rave Un 2 the Joy Fantastic."
