Reunited Cult Kicks Off North American Tour In June

Having reunited and recorded its first new studio album in seven years, U.K. rock act the Cult will kick off a North American tour June 14 in Reno. The group will take Monster Magnet and Stabbing Westward along for the run, which will play 38 dates before wrapping Aug. 10 in San Francisco.

Even though exact dates and venues have not yet been confirmed, tour promoter House of Blues has set up a special Web site where fans can register for pre-sale ticketing opportunities as dates are announced. Streaming audio, contests, interviews, and news will also be part of the site. The band's own official site is scheduled to relaunch June 1 at a new address, thecultnet.com.

"Beyond Good and Evil," the first studio album under the Cult name since a 1994 self-titled release, is due June 5 via Lava/Atlantic. Lead single "Rise" debuted last week at No. 34 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.

The group -- featuring original members Ian Astbury (vocals), Billy Duffy (guitar), and Matt Sorum (drums), and new bassist Billy Morrison -- are already on the road playing clubs in advance of the album's release. The Cult plays tonight at the House of Blues in New Orleans and will be out through a May 29 gig in Providence, R.I. Among those dates are a handful of radio station festivals, including May 26 at the WBCN River Rave in Foxboro, Mass., and the next day at the WHFStival in Washington, D.C.
