Reggae Crown Prince Brown Dead At 42

Dennis Brown, a prolific singer/songwriter/musician often referred to as "the crown prince of reggae," died this morning in Kingston, Jamaica. The cause was pneumonia; he was 42.

Dennis Emmanuel Brown began his career at age 12, finding fame with the track "No Man Is An Island," which he cut for Studio One producer Coxsone Dodd. Over a 30 year period, he recorded more than 65 albums and 300 singles for such labels as VP, Shanachie, Gator, Trojan, and R.A.S. Among his hit tracks were "Money In My Pocket," "Revolution" "Sitting And Watching," "The Promised Land" and "Poison," the latter a Bell Biv Devoe track that featured Brian and Tony Gold. His last album was "Tribulation," released this year on Heartbeat.

Brown is survived by his wife, Yvonne, and 12 children.
