Internet phenom Rebecca Black is prepping the follow-up single to "Friday," and sadly, it is not called "Saturday." Instead, the 13-year-old singer will return with "LOL," a track she is currently working on along with the rest of her debut album, according to The Sun.
"Here I am in a studio working on my debut album... Just like 'Friday,' the new songs are pretty catchy," says Black, who has been recording at the Flying Pigs Production studio in Los Angeles. Similar to the simplistic chorus of "Friday," the hook to "LOL" reportedly goes, "BFF you make me LOL."
Rebecca Black Looks to Move Beyond 'Friday'
Since the "Friday" video was uploaded to YouTube on Feb. 10, the clip has racked up 66 million views and landed Black appearances on "Good Morning America" and "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno." As the song rises 19 spots to No. 38 on this week's Digital Songs chart, manager John McEntee told Billboard last week, "Record labels have been contacting myself and [Los Angeles production house] Ark Music directly about Rebecca."
While Black says that the mass criticism of the song "really hurt at first," the singer says that she has brushed off the mockery with the help of celebrity supporters like Lady Gaga and Nick Jonas. "People were saying, 'You're the worst singer, this is the worst song.' They criticized my voice and the lyrics," says Black. "But I call them negative Nancies. They can try to rain on my parade but as far as I'm concerned they are raining on their own parade."
