"It is an honor that our great city has been selected as the venue for this annual event that showcases African American artists and music," Detroit mayor Kwame M. Kilpatrick said in a statement.
Tickets for the event will go on sale Friday (May 2), through Ticketmaster. VIP seats will cost $103.50, with other tickets fetching $88.50, $78.50, and $43.50. A limited number of free tickets will be offered to active military personnel.
This year's Detroit Music Festival is sponsored by Greektown Casino, Pelle Pelle Apparel, and local radio outlets WJLB and WMXD (Mix 93). For more information, visit the event's official Web site.
