R.L. Burnside Live Album On The Way

Mississippi bluesman R.L. Burnside will on Oct. 23 release his first live album, dubbed "Burnside on Burnside," via Epitaph-distributed Fat Possum Records. Recorded in January in Portland, Ore., and San Francisco, the set features Burnside's two-man band, comprised of his grandson Cedric Burnside on drums and guitarist Kenny Brown.

To support the release, Burnside will perform at Seattle's Showbox on Aug. 31, Portland's Crystal Ballroom on Sept. 1, Chicago's House of Blues on Sept. 7, and the Greater Ozark Blues Festival Sept. 8 in Springfield, Mo.

The 74 year-old guitarist has enjoyed a renewed following ever since the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion joined him on 1996's "A Ass Pocket O'Whiskey" (Matador). His 2000 album, "Wish I Was in Heaven Sitting Down," peaked at No. 8 on Billboard's Top Blues Albums chart.
