The Smashing Pumpkins will take an unconventional approach to their European tour, playing in unusual venues like gardens and city squares, as well as more traditional theater and festival locations. Starting May 14 at the Speilbudenplatz, a concert hall nestled in the red light district of Hamburg, the monthlong tour will visit 13 countries. Scheduled performances include May 21 at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain; May 26 at the Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen; May 27 at the Botanique Garden in Brussels; June 4 on the rooftop of the FNAC music retail store in Paris; and June 7 at the Gradinata delle EUR in Rome. Each stop on the tour will be recorded for either live radio and television broadcast, or for primetime specials to air at a later date.

No opening act has been tapped as of yet. As has been widely reported, singer/songwriter Lisa Germano, who was John Mellencamp's fiddler before becoming a solo artist, will be part of the Pumpkins' touring band, as will longtime Mellencamp drummer Kenny Aronoff.

After their jaunt through Europe, the Pumpkins will play shows in Australia and Japan, followed by North American dates in July. The group's latest set, "Adore," will be released June 2 in the U.S. by Virgin.
