Powerman 5000 Brace For 'Doomsday' Tour

Modern rock outfit Powerman 5000 is planning a six-week North American tour in support of its forthcoming DreamWorks set "Anyone for Doomsday?," due Aug. 28. The trek, which kicks off Sept. 6, will also feature fellow modern rockers Saliva. A rotating cast of groups will add support, including Stereomud, Machinehead, and Halfcocked, the latter of whom will release "The Last Call" Aug. 21 on Powerman frontman Spider One's Megatronic imprint through DreamWorks.

"We definitely made a more aggressive record this time," Spider said in a statement. "It seemed very natural. We noticed while touring for the last album that the songs got more aggressive-sounding as the tour stretched on. The songs are still real hook-laden, but somewhere along the way everything started to sound a little meaner."

The album is preceded by first single "Bombshell," which racked up 245 spins in its first week at U.S. modern rock radio stations. As previously reported, "Doomsday" was recorded in Los Angeles with producer Terry Date (Soundgarden, Deftones). The new set is the follow-up to Powerman 5000's platinum-certified 1999 sophomore album "Tonight the Stars Revolt," which peaked at No. 29 on The Billboard 200.
