According to CTV, approximately 3.6 million people voted for the two remaining contestants after Wednesday night's final performance program, which was watched by 3.3 million viewers. Nearly 32 million votes were cast over the second season's 34 episodes, more than a 35% increase over last year's 20.5 million.
As his prize for winning, Porter was immediately signed to a BMG Canada recording contract. It is expected that "Awake in a Dream," the song written for this year's program, will be released shortly as a single, with Porter beginning work on his full-length studio debut next week.
More than 9,000 contestants auditioned for the show's second competition in selected cities, hoping to follow in the shoes of Ryan Malcolm, who won the inaugural talent competition.
