As it nears the one-year point since the release of its latest album, "The Wonders of the Younger," Plain White T's are starting to think about what they want to do next.

"I think there are a few of the songs that didn't make the album that may possibly be used for whatever the next album is," frontman Tom Higgenson tells Billboard.com. "It's still a little early to figure that out yet. I'm sure we'll write a bunch of new songs, too. I always set my aspirations pretty high, so we'll see what happens. I'm excited to write and to really push myself and not settle for anything but great, you know? I'm really looking forward to it."

Higgenson says that with the group currently off the road, he hopes Plain White T's will "try and record some stuff in the next month or two." He's also contemplating some sort of mix-tape type of release, "like a full album of remixes and some new songs and things like that. Maybe we'll spend a week or two in the studio just recording a bunch of the songs that didn't make 'Wonders' and a bunch of songs that we love and will probably never use and just give it away for free online or something. I think that's a cool idea to just keep putting music out there, especially for free. I would have loved that if some band that I loved gave away 20 songs. So we might try and do something like that."

And while guitarist Tim Lopez tried his hand on lead vocals for some tracks from "The Wonders of the Younger" -- which came out last December and launched the Top 10 Adult and AC hit "Rhythm of Love" -- but Higgenson isn't sure if that will continue on the group's next effort. "Tim came in with one demo awhile ago that was decent, so I don't know," he says. "I think we're just going to play it like we usually do, and if he writes some great songs, then he'll sing them, and I'll sing the ones I write."

And after a number of collaborations on "The Wonders of the Younger" -- including Zac Malloy, Goldfinger's John Feldmann and others -- Higgenson is thinking about changing his tact again. "I definitely thing with this album I'm going to try to do most of the writing myself," he explains. "I love co-writing and I think I've found a few friends by doing that. But I feel like I'm at my most honest and vulnerable when I'm by myself. So I just want to get back to that and present that side of me again and kind of go all-in for this next album."
