Phillips Brings The 'Love,' Tours With Doe, Hersh

Comments

Grant-Lee Phillips will commercially release "Ladies' Love Oracle," a collection of solo acoustic material, Aug. 20 via Zoe/Rounder. Recorded over the course of three days during October 1999 in producer Jon Brion's basement studio, the album was originally only available online and at the former Grant Lee Buffalo frontman's live shows.

"Sometimes a sketch says more than a mural," says Phillips in a post on his official Web site. "'Ladies' Love Oracle' is me in the raw, me in the dark, me in the basement." Song titles include "You're A Pony," "Squint," "Flamin' Shoe" and "Lonesome Serenade." According to Rounder, "Ladies' Love Oracle" is heading to retail due to "popular demand." The commercial release will feature new packaging and a previously unreleased bonus track, "Snow Flakes."

In support of the album, Phillips will join Throwing Muses frontwoman Kristin Hersh and X's John Doe for a fall U.S. theater tour, slated to begin Sept. 18 in Atlanta. Venues have yet to be confirmed, but dates -- with additional cities to be announced -- are listed below. The tour will hit the West Coast in November.

In related news, Phillips scored the upcoming Wesley Snipes film "Zig Zag," and was recently accepted into this year's Sundance Film Music Composers Lab, which admits only four composers and three filmmakers annually. Phillips also co-wrote and sings lead vocals on "Motion," a track from DJ Paul Oakenfold's new Maverick solo album, "Bunkka."

Here are Grant-Lee Phillips/Kristin Hersh/John Doe tour dates:

Sept. 18: Atlanta
Sept. 19: Carrboro, N.C.
Sept. 20: Washington, D.C.
Sept. 21: Philadelphia
Sept. 23: Boston
Sept. 25: New York
