Peyroux Surveys 'Perfect World' On New Album

Comments

Jazz vocalist/songwriter Madeleine Peyroux will return this fall with a follow-up to 2004's "Careless Love." "Half the Perfect World" hits stores Sept. 12 via Rounder, her second effort for the label.

Pairing once again with producer Larry Klein, Peyroux covers romantic songs like Leonard Cohen's "Blue Alert" and the title track, Joni Mitchell's "River" featuring k.d. lang and Tom Waits' "(Looking For) The Heart of Saturday Night." Peyroux co-penned four songs on the set, including opener "I'm All Right" with Steely Dan's Walter Becker.

"Careless Love" has sold nearly 400,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen Soundscan. The sultry singer made trans-Atlantic headlines when she reportedly vanished in the midst of promoting the release, as indicated by a press release issued by her U.K. based publicity team.

Sales shot up after the announcement, but Peyroux re-appeared in New York after a private investigator simply called her manager and inquired after her whereabouts.

Here is the track list for "Half the Perfect World":

"I'm All Right"
"The Summer Wind"
"Blue Alert"
"Everybody's Talkin'"
"River"
"A Little Bit"
"Once in a While"
"(Looking For) The Heart of Saturday Night"
"Half the Perfect World"
"La Javanaise"
"California Rain"
"Smile"
