Parker Jr., Lewis In 'Behind The Music' Flap

Comments

Ray Parker Jr. has sued Huey Lewis and his publishing company Hulex Music over comments Lewis allegedly made on VH1's "Behind The Music," Billboard Bulletin reports. The action, filed Thursday in California Superior Court in L.A., claims that Lewis violated the agreements set forth in an earlier lawsuit between the two.

In 1984, Lewis sued Parker and others, claiming that Parker's tune "Ghostbusters" infringed upon his song "I Want A New Drug." In 1985, the parties reached a settlement, which, according to the new suit, included a confidentiality clause. Parker now alleges that Lewis breached that clause when he spoke about the suit on a recent episode of "Behind The Music."

Parker is asking for "all the consideration" the defendants were awarded in their original settlement, as well as damages for emotional distress. No dollar figure was given.

"We're looking at the original agreement, and we'll compare to [Lewis'] comments to see what this is all about," says Gerald Margolis, Lewis' attorney.
