When Panic! At The Disco singer Brendon Urie fell ill with a reported 102-degree fever, the band arrived to Salt Lake City music festival the X96 Big Ass Show without a frontman. But rather than cancel the headlining gig, according to the Alternative Press, they found a group of substitutes: King Niko singer Ransom Wydner. Neon Trees' Tyler Glenn, Exit Strategy's Ash and the band's own bassist, Dallon Weekes.
"It's every musician kid's dream," Wydner told Amp Magazine. "You go to a show for this band that you love and their lead singer is sick, and they need YOU to fill in for him. It's like a Disney movie or something, it's nuts."
Having returned from a trip to Indonesia before the Oct. 8 festival, Urie was hospitalized, with malaria a possible concern. (Tests for the illness were reportedly negative.)
But the band made it through a full set thanks to its last-minute replacements, including Wydner, who Weekes spotted performing earlier in the day. It was a big moment for the local singer, whose band has made waves in Salt Lake City since forming in 2009, with a west coast tour and the release of single "Intentions" coming earlier this year.
