The lead singer of British pop band Ou Est Le Swimming Pool jumped to his death after playing at a music festival in Belgium, British authorities have confirmed.

Charles Haddon, 22, leapt from a telecommunications mast behind the main stage at the Pukkelpop festival and fell to a parking area below on Friday (Aug. 20). Belgian police are treating the death as suicide.

"We can confirm the death of a British national on August 20 in Hasselt, Belgium," a British Foreign Office spokeswoman said.

The band had performed at the three-day festival in Hasselt shortly before Haddon climbed up the mast. The band played the Glastonbury and Bestival festivals last year and were due to start a British tour in October.
