Old Arguments Scotch New York Reggae Bash

Comments

Reggae legend Bunny Wailer has pulled out of Sunday's The Nice Revolution concert in Hunter Mountain, N.Y., which would have marked his first appearance alongside producer Lee "Scratch" Perry and the I-Threes (Bob Marley's widow Rita, Marcia Griffiths and Judy Mowatt) in decades. As such, the show has been postponed until further notice.

Sources say Wailer was not told that Perry would also be part of the concert until after he'd agreed to play, and upon finding out, sent a letter to organizers Legendary Records withdrawing from the event. The two have fought for years over Perry's sale of early Wailers recordings, which he produced.

"We regret that Bunny chose to break his contract," says Legendary Records co-founder D'Niscio Brooks. "We have nothing but the greatest respect for him as an artist and the musical history which he has helped to create. We had no intention of slighting Bunny by the addition of Lee 'Scratch' Perry. We sought to recapture the spirit of unity and love which was the legacy of Bob Marley and the Wailers and sincerely hoped that he would be a part of this goal."

The I-Threes are still scheduled to perform Friday at New York's Apollo Theatre.
