No Doubt 'Rock Steady' In December

No Doubt will on Dec. 18 unveil "Rock Steady" (Trauma/Interscope), its fifth studio set and second in two years. The album was recorded in Los Angeles, Jamaica, and London by a menagerie of A-list producers, including Nellee Hooper, William Orbit, Ric Ocasek, Dr. Dre, the Neptunes, and Timbaland. Songs include "Hella Good," "Hey Baby," "Detective," "Making Out," and the title track.

"One of the best things about being in a band for so long and having any level of success is the opportunity to go and play in different creative sandboxes," bassist Tony Kanal said in a statement. "For us to stretch our musical limbs and reach out to people that we admire so much was really gratifying."

"'Rock Steady' is where we are as a band right now," frontwoman Gwen Stefani adds. "Stay the course, keep focused. Like the song says, 'A real love survives, a rock steady vibe.' It could just as well be describing No Doubt, our band, after all these years."

After a four-year gap between the release of the group's breakthrough album "Tragic Kingdom," and "Return of Saturn," No Doubt made a quick turnaround for the new record. Stefani has had an even busier year, guesting on two high-profile duets: "Let Me Blow Ya Mind" with Eve and "South Side" with Moby. The former hit No. 2 on The Billboard Hot 100, while the latter reached No. 14. Video clips for both songs are up for a variety of honors at the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards.

No Doubt has yet to announce tour plans in support of "Rock Steady," but updates will be posted on the group's newly relaunched official Web site.

"Return of Saturn" debuted at No. 2 on The Billboard 200 and spawned the modern rock hits "Ex-Girlfriend" and "Simple Kind of Life." But it was not able to reach the success level of its chart-topping predecessor, which lingered on The Billboard 200 for 90 weeks, buoyed by a string of hit singles including "Just a Girl," "Don't Speak," and "Spiderwebs."
