New Year's Eve Dance Events Mount

Comments

Dance music revelers in Los Angeles will be torn between two massive raves this New Year's Eve, with Paul Oakenfold, Deep Dish, and BT leading an outdoor event on Hollywood Boulevard, and Paul Van Dyk, DJ Sasha, and Derrick Carter spinning indoors at the Los Angeles Coliseum Gardens.

Also turning out DJ sets at the Coliseum will be Lee Burridge, Sean Cusick, and Jimmy Van M, while Junkie XL, will perform a live set. The event pits two big promoters on the L.A. club scene head-to-head, with Dave Dean spearheading the Coliseum show and Gene La Pietra organizing the Hollywood Boulevard celebration. While the Hollywood Boulevard event will be held on city streets -- a half mile stretch of Los Angeles' Walk of Fame -- Dean's Coliseum concert will be staged inside tents with transparent ceilings.

In an interesting twist, Dean was the one behind the Hollywood Boulevard rave last year, at which Van Dyk made an appearance. Both events will feature carnival rides and a fireworks display. Those attending the 21-and-older Coliseum festival will also be granted admittance to the Los Angeles Sports Arena, which is hosting an all-ages dance event with Sandra Collins.

Tickets are $75 for the Coliseum show, and are available now through Ticketmaster. Like Oakenfold, who will perform in L.A. and then fly to Las Vegas, the Coliseum gig is one of two New Year's Eve performances from Van Dyk. Before appearing in L.A., the DJ will ring in the new year at Jackson's on Third in Phoenix.

Meanwhile, promotion company Juggernaut has unveiled the lineup for a New Year's Eve event at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York, featuring Timo Maas, DJ sets from Ken Jordan and Scott Kirkland of the Crystal Method, Terry Casey, and DJ Wool. Advance tickets are $99 and are available from Juggernaut's official Web site.
