Ralph Tresvant, of seminal R&B vocal act New Edition, has formed a new label. Tresvant's brother Derek will be the general manager of Rated R Records, a Boston-based hip-hop/R&B imprint that will also have an office in New York. Rated R, which is in talks to secure national distribution, plans to release Ralph Tresvant's first solo album in five years during the first quarter of 2000.
In addition, he and fellow New Edition members Ricky Bell and Bobby Brown are recording a Rated R album, tentatively titled "Triple Threat," for next year.
It has not been determined under what name the act will record; New Edition remains signed to MCA.
