Neil Young Feeling 'Passionate' This Spring

Comments

Rock legend Neil Young has given his next Reprise album the working title "Are You Passionate?" and is shooting for a March 26 release, according to a spokesperson. Young's backing band for the set could not be confirmed, but fan sites have reported that Crazy Horse guitarist Pancho Sampedro and frequent Young collaborators Donald "Duck" Dunn (bass) and Booker T. Jones (keyboards) all contributed to the sessions.

As previously reported, the album will include the song "Let's Roll," which was inspired by Todd Beamer, a passenger onboard one of the flights hijacked by terrorists on Sept. 11. In an unusual move, the track was sent on CD-Rs to U.S. radio outlets directly from Young's management, as opposed to the Reprise radio promotions department.

"Let's Roll" re-entered Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks chart at No. 39 last week, having earlier become his first title in more than six years to hit the tally.

Young is expected to tour this summer in support of the new album. Beforehand, he will kick off a previously announced tour with his bandmates in Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young Feb. 6 in Detroit.

The new set is the follow-up to "Silver and Gold," which debuted at No. 22 on The Billboard 200 in May 2000 and sold 385,000 copies in the U.S., according to SoundScan.
