NBA Drafts Music Stars For Jam Session

The days leading up to the National Basketball Association's (NBA) 52nd annual All-Star game Feb. 9 in Atlanta will be packed with entertainment under the umbrella of the NBA All-Star Jam Session. Among the activities that will feature top musical acts will be the league's "Read to Achieve" event and Club NBA performances at the Georgia World Congress Center.

Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, B2K, and LL Cool J will all perform at the Feb. 8 "Read To Achieve" charity event. The hour-long festivities will be televised on ABC, and simulcast on a total of 12 television networks, including TNT, Disney, Nickelodeon, BET, Telemundo, and Canada's MuchMusic.

Each artist is slated to do one song. Timberlake will perform his "Cry Me A River," Aguilera will sing "Beautiful," B2K will stage "Bump, Bump, Bump," and LL Cool J will perform "Paradise." All the aforementioned songs have made it to the top-50 of Billboard's Hot 100, with "Paradise" being the only cut to not yet reach the top-20.

The NBA's "Read to Achieve" program utilizes NBA stars and celebrities to encourage reading among children. Last year's All-Star event in Philadelphia featured performances by Britney Spears, Alicia Keys, P. Diddy, and Lil' Bow Wow.

Other All-Star Jam Session activities will feature performances by R&B/hip-hop stars Nelly, Nivea, Cee-Lo, and Ludacris. Details and the performance slate for Club NBA have not yet been announced. Last year's Club NBA performers included Fat Joe, Naughty By Nature, Ms. Jade, and City High.

Tickets for the Jam Session, which will also feature plenty of displays and interactive elements for fans, are already on sale via Ticketmaster.

NBA All-Star 2003 festivities include "NBA All-Star Saturday Night," which will be broadcast Feb. 9 beginning at 7 p.m. Like previous years, the show will feature celebrities teaming with NBA and WNBA stars in basketball games and several skills challenge events for players.

Also expected in the coming weeks is information about pre-game and halftime performers for the NBA All-Star Game, which will be broadcast live Feb. 9 on TNT beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET. For more information about the game, visit the official NBA Web site.

As previously reported, Ja Rule and Eve will be among those artists taking place in a related event in Atlanta. The touring duo will to join Jurassic 5, Biz Markie, and Doug E Fresh on Feb. 7 for a special "Love-In Concert" sponsored by Nike's (Michael) Jordan brand at Atlanta's AmericasMart. General admission tickets for the show are on sale via Ticketmaster.
