Mya Gets Real On 'Liberation'

R&B vocalist Mya will return on Nov. 14 with her first album for Universal Motown, "Liberation." In addition to first single "Ayo" featuring DJ Kool, the set includes "I Got That" featuring the Game, the Scott Storch-produced "Lock U Down" and the Kwame-produced "I Am."

Mya drew inspiration for the album by leaving Los Angeles and moving back to Washington, D.C., where she spent her formative years. "I just knew that I had to get back to my roots and rediscover what had made me excited in the first place," she says. "I have all this creative energy and all these ideas but LA it was too impersonal of a place to develop a real creative family."

"Liberation" is the follow-up to 2003's "Moodring," Mya's final album for Interscope. The set debuted at No. 3 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 589,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

As previously reported, Mya also makes a guest appearance on Marques Houston's upcoming album, "Tug," and will be seen in the Bill Duke-directed drama "Cover," due in U.S. theaters this fall.
