Irish R&B/pop singer Samantha Mumba will make her feature film acting debut in a new big screen adaptation of H.G. Wells' "Time Machine," according to the Hollywood Reporter. Mumba will star opposite Guy Pearce ("Rules Of Engagement," "L.A. Confidential") in the sci-fi adventure feature, directed by Simon Wells ("The Prince Of Egypt"), the great-grandson of the author.
Mumba will play Mara, one of the elios species discovered when Pearce's character accidentally travels 800,000 years into the future in his newly invented time machine. Also cast in the big-budget, digital effects-laden flick are Jeremy Irons ("Stealing Beauty," "Dead Ringers"), Mark Addy ("The Full Monty"), and Sienna Guillory ("Rules Of Engagement").
In December, Mumba's debut Interscope album, "Gotta Tell You," reached No. 1 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart, while the title track peaked at No. 4 on The Billboard Hot 100.
