New York festival Creative Time kicks off its third season of music, film, spoken word, and performance art June 16 with a multimedia event featuring artists Gus Gus, the X-Men, and Low; design work from collectives Tomato and Vegetable Vision; and short films from noted music video director Spike Jonze and "Boogie Nights" director Paul Thomas Anderson. The event, like all of the series' shows, will take place at the Anchorage, a cavernous space located beneath the Brooklyn Bridge. Other musical highlights of Creative Time 98 include nights dedicated to breakbeat (June 19), hip-hop (June 25), and techno culture (June 27), as well as an evening curated by Downtown fixture John Zorn (June 26).
In other multimedia news, Michael Cretu, the ringleader of dance music act Enigma, returns July 14 with a new Virgin album, "The Energy Of Sound." The set, recorded under the name Trance Atlantic Air Waves, is a collection of interpretive covers of various TV and movie themes, including "Axel F" and "Crockett's Theme.
