MuchMusic Sponsoring Benefit Concert

Sarah MacLachlan, Barenaked Ladies, Shaggy, and Sum 41 are slated to perform at a benefit concert hosted by Canadian music video channel MuchMusic on Sunday (Sept. 23). "Music Without Borders," to be taped in MuchMusic's studios, will also feature performances from Dinner is Ruined featuring Gordon Downie (Tragically Hip) and indie-rocker Julie Doiron, the Tea Party, Baby Blue Soundcrew, and Treble Charger.

The event, intended to inform and deal with issues surrounding last week's terrorist attacks on the U.S., will be broadcast commercial free on MuchMusic beginning at 4 p.m. EST and streamed on MuchMusic's Web site. The station is promoting the concert as an interactive event, encouraging viewers to submit questions online or through an 800 number for a panel of experts. Participating artists will also share their views on the tragedy.

A number of other stations will carry the concert, including MuchUSA, MuchMoreMusic, Star!, Canadian Learning Television, and CourtTV Canada. Portions of the program will air on Toronto radio stations CHUM FM, Edge 102, and Kiss 92. Throughout the concert, MuchMusic will provide information on where viewers can lend their fundraising support.

The benefit concert will take the place of MuchMusic's annual awards, originally scheduled for Sept. 23 but cancelled last week.
