MTV Movie Awards Add Categories, Weezer To Lineup

What was the "best music moment" in the films of the last year or so? Fans are being asked to decide just that in one of the four new categories added to the 10th annual MTV Movie Awards, taking place June 2 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, and airing June 7 on the cable channel.

Up for the award is Jack Black's performance of Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get it On" in "High Fidelity"; the Soggy Bottom Boys' performance of "Man of Constant Sorrow" from the Coen Brothers' film "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?"; the "Twisted Sister bus scene" in "Road Trip"; Piper Perabo's take on "One Way or Another" in "Coyote Ugly"; and the "'Tiny Dancer' bus scene" in "Almost Famous."

Also new is the best cameo in a movie category, in which appearances by musicians Bruce Springsteen ("High Fidelity") and Ozzy Osbourne ("Little Nicky") will vie for the honor along with actors James Van Der Beek ("Scary Movie"), Andy Dick ("Road Trip"), and Tom Green ("Charlie's Angels"). The other new categories for 2001 are best line from a movie and best dressed.

Beginning tomorrow (May 23), votes can be cast in the new categories at the MTV Web site. Voting in all categories -- including best dance scene, best kiss, best fight, and best villain -- will be open until the awards are taped June 2.

In other MTV Movie Awards news, Weezer has been added to the event's performance line-up, joining the Dave Matthews Band, as well as the female quartet of Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, Mya, and Pink, who will perform their rendition of "Lady Marmalade." The track from the soundtrack to the summer musical "Moulin Rouge" is No. 3 in its seventh week on The Billboard Hot 100.

Newly announced presenters include Aaliyah, Shannon Elizabeth, Brendan Fraser, Chris Klein, Tara Reid, David Spade, Julia Stiles, and Mena Suvari. The show will be hosted by "Saturday Night Live" cast member Jimmy Fallon and actress Kirsten Dunst.
