Rip Slyme (Warner Music Japan) walked away with awards for best new artist and best hip-hop/rap act, while Ken Hirai (Defstar Records/Sony Music Entertainment Japan) and Ayumi Hamasaki (Avex) received the awards for best male and female, respectively.
Hosted by Japanese comedic duo London Boots, the event -- held at the Tokyo International Forum before an audience of 2,000 -- featured performances by Boyz II Men, Sheryl Crow, Jay-Z, Joe, Nickelback, and Oasis, along with Mr. Children, Rip Slyme, Hirai, Kamasaki, Chemistry, and Tamio Okuda.
Guitarist Jimmy Page made a surprise appearance to accept the Legend Award. Oasis won the best live-performance award after appearing with four other acts at the MTV Super Dry Live concert on Thursday in Tokyo.
