Most Contribute To Hurricane Relief Efforts

Our readers are a generous lot. A majority of you have contributed to relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Katrina's devastation of the Gulf Coast, according to a Billboard.com poll. Of 2,705 who responded, 66% say they have made a donation through the various avenues that have been established.

Surprisingly, because of the nature of this site and the prevalence of initiatives that have involved artists (concerts, telethons, songs and albums), only 7% say they've made their monetary contribution through a music-related effort.

The biggest segment -- 37% -- contributed money through a non-music initiative. Another 6% donated supplies to be shipped to survivors of the killer storm's onslaught.

Despite the overwhelming collections that charitable organizations have tallied -- more than a billion dollars, according to reports -- it's interesting to note that 34% of those who responded to the poll say they have made no contribution at all.
