Morcheeba, Others Lend A Hand On Jim White Album

Comments

Florida-based singer/songwriter Jim White has enlisted help from industry sources on both side of the Atlantic to complete his new album, "No Such Place." Set for a Feb. 12 release in the U.K. on Luaka Bop via Virgin, and on Feb. 13 in North America, the album features production by English trip-hoppers Morcheeba and Andrew Hale of Sade and Sweetback, as well as Q-Burns Abstract Message (aka Florida DJ/producer/remixer Michael Donaldson), Sohichiro Suzuki of Yellow Magic Orchestra and World Standard, and White himself.

Another Brit in the equation is Jeremy Lascelles, managing director of Chrysalis Music, who offered White a publishing deal after hearing the tracks produced by Morcheeba. "I made the deal with Jim about two-and-a-half, three years ago," Lascelles tells Billboard.com. "Morcheeba played me these two songs they'd done with him, 'The Wound That Never Heals' and 'Handcuffed To A Fence In Mississippi,' and I thought they were two of the best things I'd heard in so long. We made a deal on the spot."

"No Such Place" is the follow-up to 1997's "Wrong Eyed Jesus," which featured guest appearances by Joe Henry and Victoria Williams and was described by Billboard at the time as a "brilliant, broodingly atmospheric" album. White is due to perform at the South By Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas, in March, and has plans to tour the U.S. and Europe in the spring.
