A group of Michael Jackson fan clubs across the world have banded together in an open letter to event organizers, asking for the cancellation of a Michael Jackson tribute concert scheduled for Oct. 8 in Wales, Reuters reports.

The 35 fan clubs said that the event, which will include performances by Christina Aguilera, Smokey Robinson, Cee Lo Green and a satellite performance by Beyoncé, is "doomed to fail."

The tribute falls during the Los Angeles trial of Jackson's doctor, Conrad Murray, for involuntary manslaughter. The singer died at age 50 in L.A. on June 25, 2009.

"From the timing of this tribute, in the middle of Dr. Murray's trial, to the ticketing prices, to the obscurity over what charities will be receiving the donation, to the no-guarantee policy of performers, the addition of Gene Simmons and dishonouring, thus tarnishing Michael Jackson's legacy was simply the last straw," reads the letter, posted to the "Fans Against Michael Forever Tribute" Facebook page.

Concert organizers, Global Live Events, dropped KISS from the lineup after receiving widespread criticism for booking the band. Bassist Gene Simmons said in an interview last year with Classic Rock magazine, "There's no question in my mind he molested those kids. Not a doubt," in reference to the molestation charges of which Jackson was acquitted after a 2005 trial in California.

The stadium in Wales holds about 75,000 people, but organizers have not yet said how many tickets, which range in price from 55 to 240 pounds ($90-360), have been sold or how many are still available to the public. The concert is scheduled to be broadcast around the world on paid television channels.
