Mellencamp Bringing Donovan On 'Words' Tour

John Mellencamp has set the first 15 dates of his Words & Music tour, which comes in support of last year's two-disc hits compilation of the same name. According to his official Web site, the tour will kick March 23 in Savannah, Ga., with dates set through April 17 in Louisville.

Donovan will support on all dates for the first leg, but not in the traditional fashion. Mellencamp tells Billboard.com he will open the shows with an hour-long set, then will be joined by Donovan on stage for a couple of his songs, followed by a solo Donovan set. Mellencamp will then close the show with another 40-plus minute set.

Another bonus is the relatively low ticket prices, which top out at $45 but mostly range from $25-35. "Quite honestly, I was embarrassed [on] my last tour how expensive tickets were," Mellencamp says. "I had friends of mine going ?John, it?s kind of expensive for us to come out and see you.' And it made me think, if my friends are saying that to me, how about the person with a big phone bill and a house payment?"

More dates are expected to be added in North America. Members of Mellencamp's official fan club can take advantage of an Internet pre-sale this week, with some shows going on sale to the general public beginning Feb. 19.

In related news, Mellencamp will make a Monday (Feb. 14) appearance on ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition."
