An auction co-sponsored by the Borders retail chain and Capitol Records is set to continue the fight against breast cancer waged by Linda McCartney, who died of the disease last year. Borders stores in New York and Santa Monica, Calif., will each host two-week silent auctions beginning April 15. On the block will be a limited-edition, numbered lithograph of the graphic from Paul McCartney's Capitol album "Flaming Pie," signed by both Paul and Linda. In addition, each store will auction a copy of Linda's posthumous CD "Wide Prairie," signed by Paul. Proceeds will benefit Gilda's Club in New York and UCLA's Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation in L.A.
Meanwhile, the retailer's Web site, www.borders.com, will offer three signed and numbered "Flaming Pie" lithographs via an online auction the last week in April; those proceeds will benefit the National Breast Cancer Coalition.
Borders is also offering specials throughout April on books related to Linda: "Wide Open," a newly released tome on her nature photography; "Linda McCartney's Sixties," an album of her photos of rock legends at work and play; and the vegetarian cookbooks "Linda's Kitchen" and "Linda McCartney On Tour.
