Marvelous 3 To Split

Atlanta-based rock trio Marvelous 3 will call it quits following an Aug. 3 performance at On the Bricks, Atlanta's hugely popular new weekly free downtown summer music festival, Billboard Bulletin reports. The group's two Elektra albums -- 1999's "Hey! Album" and 2000's "Ready Sex Go" -- sold a combined 133,000 units in the U.S., according to SoundScan. The debut album featured the single "Freak of the Week," which hit No. 5 on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart.

The band -- vocalist/guitarist Butch Walker, bassist Jayce Fincher, and drummer Slug -- will pursue separate creative interests, according to manager Nancy Camp. Writing on the group's official Web site, Walker says he may begin a solo project "that would be a little different from what I write for the Marvies," in addition to writing and production work for other artists.

"[The decision to split] doesn't mean we won't ever play together again. It just means that we have to step away and get our space, and seize the moment to gain from other musically related opportunities," Walker continues.

A live album as well as a DVD, titled "History of Marvie," are in the works, according to the site.
