Madonna's new single will be a cover of Don McLean's folk-rock classic "American Pie," and will be included on the soundtrack to the film "The Next Best Thing." Both the single and the soundtrack will be released on Feb. 29 by Maverick.
The film, which stars Madonna, Benjamin Bratt, and Rupert Everett, hits theaters on March 10. Everett sings backup with Madonna on the single.
Although the soundtrack lineup has not yet been confirmed, it is expected that Madonna will contribute one or two additional new songs.
Madonna is scheduled to perform "American Pie" during Super Bowl XXXIV Jan. 30 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
