Tool, Rammstein, Iggy and the Stooges, M.I.A and LCD Soundsystem lead a formidable line-up for the 2011 Australasian Big Day Out Tour, details for which were announced today (Sept. 28).

Among the big-name domestic contingent will be Grinderman, Wolfmother, Bliss N Eso, Angus and Julia Stone and Airbourne, on what promises to be a heavier-than-usual show.

"This is by far our biggest and most diverse announcement ever," organizers Ken West and Vivian Lees said today as the first round of names were revealed. "From the heaviest to the sweetest sounds in the world today, this will be a sensory overload not to be missed."

The Big Day Out began life as a one-off show in Sydney back in 1992. Now, it's Australia's premier touring festival, shifting a record 337,000 across seven shows in 2010.

West and Lees' blockbuster 2011 event will run across six cities, beginning Jan. 21 in Auckland, before crossing the Tasman Sea for dates on the Gold Coast (Jan. 23), Sydney (Jan. 26), Melbourne (Jan. 30), Adelaide (Feb. 4) and winding-down in Perth (Feb. 6).

The tickets onsale period is staggered from Oct. 6.
