Rock band Lotus will allow fans to decide the ticket prices for select dates on its U.S. club tour this fall. The pay-what-you-want option will be available for eight West Coast shows, beginning Oct. 6 at the Roxy in Los Angeles.

Tickets to the upcoming West Coast concerts will be available for purchase in increments of $1, according to Lotus bassist Jesse Miller. Those who pay $15 or more will receive free digital downloads of the band's forthcoming EPs "Feather on Wood" and "Oil on Glass," due for release on Oct. 6.

"We wanted to throw in something that was an incentive for people to up their price a little bit," Miller tells Billboard.com. "The idea is to get people really excited about these shows, get into the best rooms and hopefully sell out all these shows. It's definitely an experiment."

Earlier this year, hip-hop artist K-os gave away all the tickets to his 10-date Canadian tour on a first-come, first-served basis on the night of a show and asked fans to pay what they felt it was worth. "This is a natural step and we honestly believe the fans will support the artist," K-os manager Terry McBride told Billboard.

Lotus' approximately 35-date fall tour of the United States begins on Sept. 19 at the Mercury Lounge in New York, and is scheduled to wrap Nov. 28 at the Terminal 5 in New York. Opening acts on various dates include Break Science (featuring Adam Dietch), the Egg, Big in Japan and Big Gigantic.

Songs from Lotus' forthcoming EP releases are outtakes and remixes from the band's 2008 full-length album, "Hammerstrike." Downloads of the EP releases will be bundled with advance ticket purchases for select fall tour dates, including shows in New York, Denver and Boston, according to the band.

Lotus will also perform new material during its upcoming trek, according to Miller, who says the band will begin recording a new album after November. "The newer stuff is more of an electronic direction than 'Hammerstrike,'" Miller says. "[That album] had more guitar and keyboard focus. I'd say the new material is more keyboard focused and dance-heavy, taking influences from Black Moth Super Rainbow to Four Tet stuff and Flying Lotus."
