Linkin Park and Warner Bros. have set a July 31 release date for "Reanimation," a remix album the group sees as a "revisiting" of its multi-platinum debut, "Hybrid Theory". According to posts on the group's official Web site, the disc will include contributions from the likes of Korn's Jonathan Davis, Staind frontman Aaron Lewis, rapper Pharoahe Monch, Jurassic 5's Chali 2na, Deftones' Stephen Carpenter, and DJ Z-Trip.
Vocalist/MC Mike Shinoda explained on the site that the project has become much more involved than a simple remix album. "This album is much more than putting a beat over the old vocals; these songs have new parts, new words, new melodies, and new themes," Shinoda said. "Rather than having the remixer submit a final piece of work, we've collaborated in the writing process. Some songs have been simply trading files; some have involved sitting down and re-writing entire sections of the song."
Mark "Spike" Stent (Bjork, Massive Attack) is assisting with the mixing of "Reanimation," which Shinoda says will likely end up as a 15-track, 60-minute disc. The first single looks to be "Points of Authority," as remixed by Orgy's Jay Gordon, for which a video is being directed by Mr. Hahn.
As previously reported, the group plans to follow "Reanimation" with an album of new songs by the end of 2002. "Hybrid Theory," which hit No. 2 on The Billboard 200 in January, has sold 7.1 million copies to date in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.
