Linkin Park's "Waiting for the End" rises 2-1 on Alternative Songs, granting the group its 10th leader on the list.

The band breaks a tie with Green Day and trails only Red Hot Chili Peppers (11) for most No. 1s in the chart's 22-year history.

Linkin Park first topped Alternative Songs with "In the End," which began a five-week reign the week of Dec. 22, 2001. The group then linked the chart's longest streak of consecutive No. 1s - six - with "Somewhere I Belong" (five weeks at No. 1, 2003), "Faint" (six, 2003), "Numb" (12, 2003-04), "Lying From You" (three, 2004), "Breaking the Habit" (four, 2004) and "What I've Done" (15, 2007).

"Waiting for the End" is Linkin Park's third Alternative Songs No. 1 in-a-row, following "The Catalyst" (four), the lead single from "A Thousand Suns," and "New Divide" (12 weeks, 2009), from "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen."

"A Thousand Suns" bowed atop the Billboard 200 in October and has sold 572,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Linkin Park's total U.S. album sales stand at 22.4 million.

"Waiting for the End" concurrently bullets at No. 2 on Rock Songs with its highest weekly audience (10.2 million, according to Nielsen BDS) and climbs 22-21 on Adult Pop Songs and 30-29 on Pop Songs.

The band embarks on its 24-date "A Thousand Suns" North American tour Jan. 20 in Sunrise, Fla. The trek is set to wrap Feb. 28 in Phoenix.
