As tipped here earlier this month, Tim McGraw will headline the bill for the first Big State Festival, to be held Oct. 13-14 at the Texas World Speedway in Bryan-College Station. Also confirmed to appear are Lynyrd Skynyrd, Lyle Lovett and his Large Band, Trace Adkins, Dierks Bentley, Gary Allan, the Wreckers, Los Lonely Boys, Jack Ingram and Miranda Lambert.
The lineup is rounded out by the Flatlanders, Billy Currington, Craig Morgan, Heartland, Eric Church, Leon Russell, Charlie Louvin, Kelly Willis and the Wrights, among many others. Additional acts will be added.
Tickets go on sale June 5 via the event's Web site. A limited amount of two-day passes will be sold for $75, after which the price will increase.
Among the non-musical attractions planned are stock car racing, a high-stakes barbecue competition and a dedicated children's area. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation.
Big State is produced by Austin-based C3, the same team that produces Lollapalooza in Chicago in August and the Austin City Limits Festival in Austin, Texas in September. In booking the debut Big State fest, "We tried to stay true to the region," says C3 partner Charles Attal, adding the team visited several Texas markets seeking input. "We drove down through Huntsville, Waco, College Station, Houston, Austin. We talked to the radio stations and random people and took surveys. It was all about what people wanted."
