'Lil' Rappers Team Up For 'Hardball'

Comments

A quartet of little leaguers -- young rappers Lil' Wayne, Lil' Zane, Lil Bow Wow, and Sammie -- have recorded the title track for the upcoming Keanu Reeves-starring film "Hardball." The single appears on the So So Def/Columbia Sountrax album, due Sept. 11. Produced by Jermaine Dupri, the hip-hop-oriented collection also features R&B newcomer Fundisha, as well as new or previously unreleased tracks from Mobb Deep, Big Tymers, Xscape, R.O.C., Da Brat, and R.L.

Dupri produced the So So Def/Columbia debut album from Lil Bow Wow, who is the featured rapper on "Hardball." A video for the cut was shot earlier this month in Los Angeles. The second single will be Fundisha's "Insomnia."

"Hardball," based on the work of journalist Daniel Coyle, finds Reeves playing a debt-stricken gambler forced to coach a little league team in Chicago's infamous Cabrini Green housing projects, an area that has since been renovated. The Paramount film is due in U.S. theaters Sept. 14.

A pair of older cuts, Notorious B.I.G.'s "Big Poppa" and "The Storm is Over" from Chicago crooner R. Kelly, are also featured on the album.

Here is the track listing for "Hardball:"

Fundisha, "Intro" (Live the Life)
Lil Bow Wow, Lil' Wayne, Lil' Zane, and Sammie, "Hardball"
Big Tymers, "You Can't Break Me"
Jagged Edge, "Where the Party At (11-01-01 Remix)"
Fundisha, "Insomnia"
The Notorious B.I.G., "Big Poppa"
R.L. featuring Jermaine Dupri, "Ghetto"
R. Kelly, "The Storm is Over Now"
Da Brat, "Ball Game"
Mobb Deep, "Play"
R.O.C., "Who Ya Love"
Xscape, "Rest of My Life"
