The White Stripes aren't the only band calling it quits this week.  LCD Soundsystem has announced it will retire this spring, after playing a string of dates overseas and closing out with an April 2 headlining show at New York's Madison Square Garden.

"It will be our last show ever," reads a statement on the band's official website. "We are retiring from the game. gettin' out. movin' on. but for just one more night, we will be playing with friends and family for nearly 3 hours-playing stuff we've never played before and going out with a bang."

The White Stripes Break Up

Like the split between Jack White and Meg White, LCD Soundsytem's retirement doesn't come entirely as a surprise. Last January -- just before the group was to release its acclaimed third album, "This Is Happening" -- frontman James Murphy told NME that the set would be their last under the LCD moniker. "I don't like saying things like that because I realise people see them as proclamations of some sort, which is not how I feel at all," he said. "When I'm working on [a record] it makes sense to think of it as the last you'll ever do because then you make it good."

Murphy and Co.'s statement requests that concertgoers wear either black or white (or both) to the final MSG show, which will also feature Liquid Liquid as the opening act -- and come prepared not to mourn, but to celebrate. "If it's a funeral, let's have the best funeral ever!!!"

Tickets for LCD's final show go on sale Feb. 11 at bowerypresents.com and ticketmaster.com. Information on pre-sale tickets will be posted on the band's official website Tuesday (Feb. 8).
