L7's desire to control its music spurred its decision to launch Wax Tadpole. "We were really eager to release a new album in '99," says L7 vocalist/guitarist Donita Sparks. "We started to realize that maybe that wouldn't be possible unless we did it ourselves, and the thought of having complete control was something that was really exciting to us."
"Slap-Happy" was produced by the band and Brian Haught, with Bong Load principals Tom Rothrock and Rob Schnapf assisting with the mixing. L7 plans to tour this summer in support of the 12-cut album, as well as issue a remix version of the set sometime early next year.
