King Delays Eye Surgery, Will Stay On Road

B.B. King has pushed plans to undergo double cataract surgery to the fall in order to fulfill his many touring commitments. So instead of canceling dates in order to accommodate the procedure in June, a spokesperson for his management company says it will take place in October.

The switch means the 78-year-old blues great will be able to perform his annual homecoming show June 11 in Indianola, Miss. He'll also be able to make a June 6 appearance at Eric Clapton's all-star Crossroads Guitar Festival in Dallas.

King is in the midst of a U.S. tour that will next take him to Columbus, Ga., on Sunday (April 25) and wrap May 2 in Northampton, Mass. A European tour will kick off May 18 in Moscow and run through a May 30 festival appearance in Denmark.

The Indianola and Dallas shows will be followed by another European tour. Finally, he'll be able to undergo the cataract surgery upon the completion of his annual North American B.B. King Blues Festival tour, which is due to kick off at the end of July, according to his management.
