Chaka Khan, Brooks & Dunn, the Delphonics, blues guitarist Jimmy Vaughan and his band Tilt-A-Whirl, and Jon Secada top the varied list of artists who will perform during the convention, which will see Texas governor George W. Bush officially named the Republican party's candidate for president.
"This convention is not only going to be historic and informative, it's also going to be extremely entertaining," 2000 Republican National Convention general co-chairman Andy Card said in a statement. "We've got a unique celebrity lineup that will bridge generations and keep people on the edge of their seats, wondering what will happen next."
Philly itself will be represented in song through appearances by legendary R&B artists Harold Melvin's Blue Notes, native alternative rockers the Interpreters, gospel ensemble the Billy Jolly Choir, and "America's Ambassadors Of Song," the Philadelphia Boys Choir.
Also performing will be country artists Lee Greenwood and Hank Williams Jr., and rock band Regular Joe, which features U.S. Rep. Joe Scarborough (R-Fla.).
Other celebrities scheduled to appear are actors Bruce Willis ("The Sixth Sense"), Rick Schroder ("NYPD Blue"), and Bo Derek ("10"), quiz/talk show host Ben Stein, retired NFL star Steve Young, wrestling champion the Rock, and former Miss America winners Nicole Johnson (1999) and Heather Whitestone McCallum (1995).
