Katy Perry went the extra mile for the unveiling of her "Teenage Dream" album artwork today (July 21), revealing a 6x6 canvas painting of the cover to her fans watching live on Ustream.    

The painting, which features Perry lying nude in strategically placed clouds of cotton candy, was made by Los Angeles-based artist Will Cotton. Cotton was also the creative director for Perry's "California Gurls" video and helped shape its Candyland-inspired.

"Ooohhh!" exclaimed Perry, who was also seeing the painting for the first time in person. "What will my mother say next? Wow. It's so gorgeous. I'm so excited. I'm nervous. I'm shaking a little bit...This is my first piece of real art, except my posters on the wall of Gwen Stefani when I was growing up." 

On why she went with a painting for her "Teenage Dream" album cover, Perry explained, "Maybe CDs will be extinct next time I put out the album...so I wanted to go out with a bang for people to remember this. I think our collaboration will make it memorable."

Perry and Cotton first teamed up on the video for "California Gurls," which Perry called "the funnest music video I've ever been a part of. It was like all things cute on crack. I've had this obsession with Japanese pop culture and how they'll put a face on a strawberry or ice cream or lollipop and turn it into a cartoon, and that's what we did. 

Perry's "Teenage Dream" is out Aug. 24, and lead single "California Gurls" drops to No. 2 on the Hot 100 this week, after a six-week reign atop the chart. The album's title track is also its next single, which will premiere in early August along with a music video.
