Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld is stitching up an apology after a remark about Adele's weight drew fashion world backlash.

"I'd like to say to Adele that I am your biggest admirer," he said in a statement, according to Reuters. "Sometimes when you take a sentence out of the article it changes the meaning of the thought... She is my favorite singer and I am a great admirer of her.

"I know how it feels when the press is mean to you in regards to your appearance," he continued, addressing his own weight loss a decade prior. "Adele is a beautiful girl. She is the best. And I can't wait for her next CD."

Lagerfeld previously told Paris' Metro paper that Adele was "a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice."

The influential designer has been making other waves in the music world in recent weeks, hosting Harlem rapper Azealia Banks in his home for a performance that went viral on YouTube.

As for Adele, she's got bigger things on her mind: in her first gig since throat surgery, the singer will make her return to live performance at Sunday's Grammy Awards. She's up for six trophies at the ceremony, including Album of the Year, for the top-selling "21."
