Of all the surprising results at the Grammy Nominations Concert on Wednesday night (Nov. 30), none were quite as head-scratching as the omission of Kanye West's "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" -- the most critically acclaimed album of 2010 -- from the Albums of the Year category. Although West led all nominees with seven nods this year, the rapper addressed the AOTY snub during a Watch The Throne concert at Chicago's United Center on Thursday night. His reasoning for the omission? Too much of a good thing.

"People focus, they say, 'You ain't have Album of the Year or Record of the Year.' But I figured out though, that's my fault for dropping 'Watch the Throne' and 'Dark Fantasy' the same year," he told the crowd. I should have just spaced it out a little bit more. "But don't worry, because me and Hov gonna keep on making shit."

Indeed, "Dark Fantasy" and "Watch The Throne," his collaborative album with Jay-Z this year, were both eligible for the Grammys this year, and each earned multiple nominations: "All of the Lights" and "Otis" are both nominated for Best Rap Song, for instance, and "Dark Fantasy" will compete against "Throne" for Best Rap Album. The way 'Ye sees it, the critically acclaimed albums split votes, so neither was nominated for the top album prize.

West's first three albums, "The College Dropout," "Late Registration" and "Graduation," were all nominated for Album of the Year, and lost out to Ray Charles' "Genius Loves Company," U2's "How To Dismantle and Atomic Bomb" and Herbie Hancock's "River: The Joni Letters," respectively. This year's nominees included Bruno Mars, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Foo Fighters and Adele, who is right behind West with six nominations.
