Juanes Plans Benefit For Landmine Victims

Alejandro Sanz, Ana Gabriel and Carlos Vives are among the artists who will perform at the Colombia sin Minas (Colombia Without Mines) concert being organized by fellow Latin star and Colombian native Juanes. Set for May 24 at Los Angeles' Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal City Walk, the all-acoustic show will also feature performances by Juan Luis Guerra, Laura Pausini, Luis Fonsi and Ricardo Montaner.

Thousands have died as a result of anti-personal mines throughout Columbia and the number of victims increases each year, according to the International Campaign to Ban Landmines' Landmine Monitor.

"Many people, including the media are not reporting on the?seriousness of this problem in Colombia where an average of three people now die each day?as a result of these deadly mines," explains Juanes, whose Mi Sangre (My Blood) Foundation is organizing the show with the help of the Observatorio de Minas Antipersonal office of the VP of Colombia, UNICEF Colombia, Adopt-A-Minefield and the United for Colombia foundation.

Tickets ranging from $40 to $200 go on sale Friday (March 31) via Ticketmaster and the venue box office. In addition to cash raised through ticket sales, the Wheel Chair Foundation will deliver wheelchairs equaling double the value of funds raised, while the Rotary Clubs of Conejo Valley and Medellin, Colombia, will donate prosthetics, wheelchairs and rehabilitation work in an amount that equals the concert's tally.
